Wow..hadn't noticed this little gem of a topic...
It always starts with D&D...yes, we may move to other games, but it always comes back to D&D as well!
Not quite 1981 (it was 1985 for me - I was 9!) and it wasn't the Red box most people know, it was that lovely purple one with the badly drawn dragon on the front and the awesome 'Keep on the Boarderland: B2' module....how many times did we venture into that keep, only to be killed over and over again by those damn bugbears! Pesky buggers!
Still...once we learnt that a mage was not good in hand to hand combat things started to get better for us!
Though back to the topic...the best night of all had to be the night I GM'd a Call of Cthulhu run on a train of the orient kind....night gaunts and brooding evil always on the edge but never seen....October nights with the window open, no lights on - only a single candle and a torch that one of the p_layer_s had remembered to bring (only one mind!) To this day we swear the fog was rolling in through the windows and around our feet (this not posible due to being on the 1st floor, not the ground!).
Did anyone escape the train? Oh yes, even managing to slay one of the evil creatures...but did they come out the same...no...all were changed in some way...

Great days of roleplay

I wont mention the time that we had someone make the tea from the wrong tea bags...!
