Don't limit yourself to what you think a Character should be like, build It the way you want It to BE, even If It's a dwarf archer or a shield maiden or even a noble thief.
The choice is totaly upto you. 
That's the gret thing about 4th Edition Dungeons & Dragons it has that endless posability. Let your mind go do not let a game cramp waht you want but as i said before be fair with yourself whan making Heroes and be fair with your fellow players and you will have the best of games.
