The Game Master - Is death the end ?

DEATH to be or not to be

That IS the question

Nobility is a great death, has and always will be.

In my group i do my best for the players to enjoy the LIFE that they have created but at times they are foolish with that Life but yet for their fun i keep them alive

Why

Why am i doing this, they have lost the fact that the world that they inhabit is dangerous, very DANGEROUS, so, why won't they run. Why do they HAVE to fight (to the death) , everything that they come across, just for me to let them win one way or another.

This game reality, of course not but, it has rules and i think that players of whatever age and skill must realise this.

Death becomes them.

The END

If your players (as characters) are not capable of realising when a danger is to big for the party then I suggest you stop trying to keep them alive and just let nature take it course.

Either they'll realise that D&D is a RPG not a computer shoot-em up or they'll be rolling a lot of characters.

The DM's job isn't to keep the players alive - the DM's job is one of a storyteller ... giving the players information and a place to esape to. If the players then choose to follow a rash course that will put the lives of their characters at risk then really you should just let the story flow. If that results in their death then hopefully they'll learn from that.

It is true what you say M. also do remember that it is the storyteller that then has to arange thier new Character to get into the story but im taking a bold step and i will reward foolishness with plenty of time to make thier new entrant into the story

Sounds like a plan Stan! ;)

Probably best to explain to the group beforehand as well - that way when they do lose a character you send them downstairs to me and I'll tell them "He Told You So!"

I killed my first Character this last Friday. Two of my players did something incredibly stupid,(not mentioning Craig by name) i gave them chance after chance to look at what they were doing and still they continued. Anyway when Death came there shouldn't have been any escape for them but fore the HEROIC deed of another PC who died in thier sted... He died a Heroes death and i cheer him for it, whata great player and a great Death...

He shall be remembered

Death comes in many forms ....My Sunday game had a Dungeon(which is good) and slithering around in this Dungeon Is an Enormous Carrion Crawler. This was placed to scare the PC's and to teach them to RUN. They attacked it! One of the party almost died (until I the GM suggested that maybe they rescue him). what can a GM do to make people realise that some monsters are going to win and that they, maybe are not there to fight. Not everything has to be killed. To leave the Dungeon littered with dead things is maybe not the way it has to be.

No wonder that these Dungeons stink so much!!

The game went better than any of the other Fridays and yes i know why, not everyone was there, a group of six hits the mark just perfect. Dont want the others that were not there to think that we do not want you it just demonstrates that a smaller group get the game done it went very well and we all had a fantastic evening

Wow its Sunday and my Sunday group is playing the best. Im actualy running the same game on two groups at the same time and see how the two groups play is a great experience and i as the GM an loveing running it.
Both teams have tackled the same problems and in some places have got stuck and suffered in the same spots in the story.
First a spike pit trap Friday game had a PC fall straight in, but the Sunday PC's it took a few failed rolls for me to have the same joy of seeing a player fall in and an added bounus i had two players fall in in my Sunday group.
The joys of D&D lol
